In turn, Mr. Mansour Zaid, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning, stressed the importance of the report and the Ministry of Planning’s support for the outputs contained therein, indicating the need to follow up on the development of executive plans and project programs based on the strategies contained in the report.
For her part, Ms. Donia Abu Ghaida, Country Director of the World Bank in Yemen, explained that through this report, the bank provides in-depth details on the countries in which it operates, exploring the challenges facing development, noting that the report focuses on integrating climate risks, development goals, and the country’s economic situation.
The World Bank launches the Climate and Development Report on Yemen in Aden
Mr. Ali Garhuom, Chairman of the General Investment Authority, participated in the launch event of the World Bank’s “Climate and Development Report on Yemen”, which was prepared by the Bank in partnership with the government represented by the Ministry of Water and Environment.
During the event, Eng. Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, Minister of Water and Environment, stressed that launching the report constitutes a sustainable strategic opportunity to direct efforts towards the future and ensure prosperity in light of the major challenges we face, indicating that Yemen is facing a complex crisis in which the effects of climate change and the effects of conflict overlap, leading to serious economic and social repercussions.
He also pointed out the importance of the investment opportunities included in the report in renewable energy and highlighting the importance of peace and stability in the success of climate change adaptation efforts.
