The Supreme Council for Higher Education approves a number of decisions and directives to develop academic and educational performance
The General Investment Authority participated in the meeting of the Supreme Council for Higher Education, which was held on Monday, November 4, 2024, headed by Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak – Prime Minister in the capital, Aden, a number of decisions and directives aimed at developing academic and educational performance in public and private universities and addressing existing challenges and problems.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed the university presidents and members of the Council, stressing the importance of the regularity of the Council’s work to address the problems and challenges facing higher education. He stressed the vital role of universities in providing scientific solutions to current problems, strengthening partnership with the private sector, and focusing on qualitative specializations.
The Council also reviewed the conditions of the teaching staff and assistant teaching staff in universities, approved the speedy completion of legal settlements and promotions due to faculty members and their assistants, and decided to form a committee headed by the Prime Minister and including the Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Finance with the aim of finding solutions to the demands raised by the teaching staff and university administrative cadres within comprehensive plans to improve economic conditions and control the decline in the exchange rate of the national currency.
The Council discussed the postgraduate studies system in higher education institutions and referred the English and Arabic Language Proficiency Program project to the Academic Accreditation Council to unify standards. The Council was tasked with reviewing the restructuring project at Shabwa University and licensing the establishment of the Postgraduate Studies Center at Hodeidah University.
The Council also approved the draft decision of the Prime Minister regarding the regulation for issuing and accrediting Yemeni peer-reviewed scientific journals to provide an official framework that guarantees the quality of journals, controls their issuance process, and spreads the culture of quality scientific research. The Council also approved the regulations for blended education at Aden University, which aims to facilitate the educational process by combining regular education and e-learning to meet the needs of the labor market.
The Council also approved the recommendations of the technical committee tasked with examining all programs, colleges, and centers submitted by universities for accreditation, stressing the need for universities to commit to not establishing new colleges or departments without their approval by the Council. The recommendations pointed to the importance of reviewing existing scientific centers according to economic feasibility and taking into account integration between universities when opening new specializations
