Founding meeting of the Yemeni National Committee for (Geoparks) – Aden

GIA – Aden was participated in the founding meeting of the Yemeni National Committee for Geoparks, consisting of 12 members. During the meeting, Dr. Hafiza Al-Sheikh – the Secretary General of the Yemeni National Committee for UNESCO presented a brief overview on the Geoparks of UNESCO (its establishing, importance, conditions for selecting geoparks and the tasks of committee members).

Then Mr. Marouf Oqba, the Geological Consultant, deliver a speech during the meeting in which he stressed the importance of geoparks as they are areas that work to protect geological art and provide means of work and entertainment for the citizen.

The meeting discussed the procedural steps that will contribute to completing this task, and important activities.

The vote consisting to form (5) members in an administrative Author of (Geoparks Committee) with their tasks each in his field and specialization. The committee’s readiness to participate in the next session was discussed. For geoparks organized by the UNESCO – Cairo office via zoom technology on December 07, 2022.

The meeting was held on October 31, 2022, at the headquarters of the Yemeni National Commission for UNESCO.
